Giridharan,
now known as Vellore R. Giridharan in South Indian Classical Music
circle, hails from a small town in North Arcot District, Vellore. He is
born to a music couple, Smt & Sri. V.N. Raghavan, who are ardent lovers
of Music. His father is a retired post master.
Mother Smt. Vanaja
Raghavan is Giri’s first guru. Even from the age of 2, Giri showed a
keen attention in listening to music. So, his mother started the
Vidhyabhyasam at the age of 5. He finished off the basic very fast and
came to a level of giving a small concert. He rendered his first concert
(Arangetram) when he was 14, where he sang some selected Pasurams from
Thiruvempavai.
Later, he came to
Chennai to develop further where he learnt under Thiruvenkadu Sri.

Padmavibhushan Dr.
Mangalampalli Sri. Balamuralikrishna, the Greatest Vaggeyakara of the
millennium, has always been Giri’s dream and mentor. Now Giri is gifted
very much to get shiksha under the musician of all times, Shri. Guruji.
Strength of Giri’s
voice is, it cleanly aligns with sruthi and travels 3 Octaves at same
ease. Giri is also a wellversed percussionist. He plays Mrudangam, Tabla,
Ghatam, Kanjira & so on.
